Munster rugby lost one of it’s favourite sons yesterday with the passing of Colm Tucker at the age of 59. Colm, who played for Ireland, The Lions and Munster, played a pivotal role in Munster’s legendary defeat of the All Blacks in Thomond Park in 1978, the only time that an Irish side has beaten the mighty Kiwis. May he rest in peace.

Irish golf had to wait 60 years (Fred Daly 1947) for a second Major golf winner, and Padraig Harrington made the breakthrough in 2007 with a victory in the British Open. He repeated this success the following year and added the US PGA to make that 3 of the best in two years. Graeme McDowell, Rory McLlroy, and Darren Clarke have since done this island proud with a Major win each, but sometimes I think that Harrington’s unique achievement is somewhat overlooked as we look to the future. Shown here is a painting of Padraig that I did two years ago to celebrate his success to date. With McLlroy’s star in the accendancy, the future of Irish golf is looking good.
